On September 13, 2023, Visa Inc. announced the launch of its Visa Cross-Border Solutions in San Francisco, a strategic initiative designed to enhance international money movement for banks, fintech companies, foreign exchange brokers, corporations, and various payment institutions.
This new venture merges Visa's established cross-border and cash management offerings, previously known as 'Treasury-as-a-Service', with capabilities acquired through its purchase of Currencycloud. The result is a comprehensive approach to international finance, referred to as the ‘B2B4X’ model, which emphasizes that while the business caters to other businesses, it prioritizes improving the end-user experience.
The target end-users are diverse, spanning individuals who seek competitive foreign exchange rates for remittances to families abroad, as well as small and medium-sized businesses aiming to receive payments from international customers while avoiding the high fees associated with intermediaries.
Visa Cross-Border Solutions provides a modular suite of components that can seamlessly integrate into an organization’s existing technology infrastructure. This is accomplished through application programming interfaces (APIs), facilitating a wide range of functionalities such as accepting payments in multiple currencies, real-time foreign exchange rates, and maintaining multi-currency wallets supporting over 30 currencies. Additionally, users can send payments to more than 180 countries and territories worldwide.
The initiative does not stop with conventional banking systems; Visa Cross-Border Solutions partners with other divisions within Visa and serves existing clientele from both Visa and Currencycloud. This collaboration benefits corporates, fintechs, FX brokers, and other entities looking to embed multi-currency and cross-border features into their offerings.
